Dr Shiliang Liu is Senior Research Scientist at Health Department of Canada: perinatal epidemiology, maternal, infant and child health, and Adjunct Professor of the Faculty of Medicine, and the School of Epidemiology and Public Health, University of Ottawa.
Dr Liu’s primary research interest involves reproductive, maternal-fetal medicine, and early childhood development. He supervises Master’s, PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. He has first-authored and co-authored over 120 peer-reviewed research articles in leading medical/scientific journals such as the Lancet, JAMA, BMJ, CMAJ, Circulation, Am J Obstetrics & Gynecology and Am J Epidemiology. His study on congenital anomaly-related fetal and infant mortality published in JAMA was identified as one of the top 10 articles on early childhood development in 2002. His study published in Circulation (2016) has provided evidence to the U.S National Toxicology Program’s and the UK Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition’s conclusions that current folic acid food fortification programs improve public health, and fetal development. He is the principal investigator (PI) and co-PI on a number of research projects funded by Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Public Health Agency of Canada, and Health Canada.
